Autumn wind (haibun)

music: Jonsi and Alex; Indian summer

I don't think they live far from the bar. She can't walk properly and it looks like she may have Down's Syndrome. Her father is always by her side. They always stop and sit down at the small table outside the bar but never enter. He is old, aged by years and suffering. Each time, he tries to have a conversation with her. He talks about T.V programs, the changing weather and other stuff... she always responds briefly with a "yes", "no" or "I don't know."

Then, he starts to sing a song: every day a different one.

singing softly,
he tries to understand...
this autumn wind

Dietmar Tauchner was here.

music: David Bowie; Heathen

The event of my summer...

Dietmar Tauchner is one of my favourite european haijins. Born in Austria, he is a well-known european author and editor of Chrysanthemum magazine (members.aon.at/bregen/). Along with Christine (his girlfriend) came to visit us here in Udine. I have not many opportunities to speak in English here in Italy and must admit that I felt a bit embarassed at first, but to my surprise, the conversation became fluent after a short time!

Togheter, we started a renku (or something like that).

Good days there'll be bad days...

music: Richard Butler; Good days, bad days

The great return of Richard Butler, the lead singer of The Psychedelic Furs ("Pretty in pink", "Heaven", "Here come cowboys", "The ghost in you", etc.). His solo album entitled "Richard Butler" released in 2006 is a collection of songs dedicated to his father: definitely recommended.

I want to unmake every bed that I laid down on
give back everything i've won
i want to unfly every crow
unwind every mile
undo everything i've done
good days there'll be bad days
good days there'll be bad days
i want to unread every book that my eyes laid on
unsay everything i've said
i want to unsing every song
unwrite every line
unstep every step i've made

good days there'll be bad days
good days there'll be bad days

i want to unsew every seam
unwind every clock
unbreathe every breath i've made
i want to unset every sun
that my eyes fell on
till i give back all i've won

good days there'll be bad days
good days there'll be bad days
good days there'll be bad days
...

The book at issue is "Ten little haibuns" and if it is not a bad joke, this news has left me speechless...
